The easiest way to score Gin Rummy
Gin Rummy is one of the most popular two-player card games in the world — a perfect blend of strategy, memory, and quick thinking. Players draw and discard cards to form melds (sets of three or four of a kind, or runs of three or more in the same suit) while trying to minimize leftover deadwood. The first player to reach the target score wins the match. Keeping track of scores across multiple rounds can be tedious, especially when bonus points for gin and undercuts start adding up. That is exactly why we built Gin Score.
Gin Score is a free, mobile-first scoring companion designed for real games. Whether you are learning the rules for the first time or you have been playing gin rummy for years, the app handles the math so you can focus on the cards. Set your target score, add player names, and start tracking rounds instantly. Every knock, gin, and undercut is recorded automatically with the correct bonuses applied, so you never have to second-guess the totals.
Score from a photo
Snap a picture of the table and let the app read both hands. Our card recognition detects every rank and suit, automatically finds your best melds, and calculates deadwood for each player. You can swap players, fix misread cards, and validate the hand before saving the round. It is the fastest way to score a hand without typing a single number.
Manual score entry
Prefer to count deadwood yourself? The manual entry mode lets you type scores directly, choose who knocked or went gin, and flag undercuts with a single tap. The app validates every entry against gin rummy rules — for example, a gin must have zero deadwood — so mistakes are caught before they hit the scoreboard.
Learn as you play
New to gin rummy? The built-in rules guide walks you through the basics — how to draw and discard, what counts as a meld, the difference between knocking and going gin, and how undercuts work. You will be playing confidently within minutes, even if you have never held a deck before.

"We play gin rummy every weekend and used to argue about scores constantly. Since we started using Gin Score, the math is instant and we spend more time actually playing. The photo scoring feels like magic."
